I didn't miss it, so much as I merely decided that I wasn't going to go and party on Parliament Hill with all the folks who were going to be out this day and evening. I just really wanted to spend the day catching up with a few things, and relaxing for the most part.
The day started uneventfully, rather mundanely, with a bit of cleaning up in the house, and I spent a relatively pleasant morning. I started to re-read Larry Niven's Ringworld, and found it comforting enough in its own way. Sure, the writing on that one is a bit dated (but look at when it was published!), but it's still an enjoyable read for all that. I managed to eat a light lunch, and then headed out for the afternoon's fun.
I had arranged to go with Kathy and my goddaughter, Ellie, to the Canadian Museum of Nature for the afternoon, and was rather looking forward to it. I got to the museum just after 12:45 pm, and they were just parking themselves, so everything was good. While we spent about 45 minutes in the Talisman Energy Fossil Gallery and looking at the dinosaurs, Ellie really wanted to see the ocean exhibits and stuff, so we spent most of the afternoon in the RBC Blue Water Gallery. Absolutely stunning stuff. I had a good afternoon, but didn't take any photos as, being the holiday Monday, it was quite crowded in the museum this day (though not as bad as it was when spross and I went to the museum back around Family Day. I had a good afternoon, and relaxed during the whole experience for the most part, though by the time I got home from the museum, my legs were hurting something fierce. Still, the pain was worth the enjoyment of the afternoon.
After a light snack once I got home, I settled in to make some supper and had some shepherd's pie (with peas in it) and a small salad for the evening meal. Did some puttering around the house, (re-)read a bit more of Niven's Ringworld, and then settled in for the night's episode of Defiance over on Showcase. Enjoyed the episode for the most part, but not going to write a review or anything else about it, as nothing stood out to me as noteworthy.
I went to bed right afterwards, the sound of fireworks going off still echoing a bit outside, and read for about half an hour before turning off the light.
All in all, a decent Canada Day with nothing really exciting going on. But a pretty enjoyable day, when all is said and done.
