The players arrived around 7:15 pm, and after a bit of a refresher about what had happened last week (more for my benefit than that of the players), we got into the game once more. This session had the player and their characters come to horrible realisation about the state of affairs in Havnor, and had to deal with some truly tough opposition in the form of the dog-headed warriors. There are a lot of mysteries to be resolved based on this game session's events - if the player characters survive them! - but the player characters gave as good as they got for the most part, and that was pretty enjoyable.
One of the elements that I strove for last night in the game session was a feeling of desolation, gloom, and hopelessness at what they found in Havnor. I succeeded pretty much for the most part, as the players commented afterwards that it was a very depressing session in some ways, full of the hanging element of fear, a bit of hopelessness, and a sense of being haunted in the village. While I like to think I did a good job at it, much of the credit has to go to the imagination of the players based on the descriptions of what they saw and their other senses, a fact that wasn't lost on Joanne, who said she really appreciated this even if her character, Dagna Styrsdottir, didn't. David commented that he was certainly creeped out - and so was his character, Amund Torkelsson. Kathy's Ingrid Horoldsdottir and Angela's Sigrun Evardsdottir are made of stronger stuff, as both women were tenacious in their efforts in the town.
In any event, a really fun session to run. I'm looking forward to seeing how the players deal with this next week! :)
