Day 19 – Favourite Published Adventure
This one is another no-brainer. The Enchanted Wood, an adventure for the DragonQuest fantasy roleplaying game, written by Paul Jacquays.
This was in many ways a sandbox adventure set in a vast, enchanted wood (duh!) that had multiple mysteries and interesting places within, many of them dangerous. I'm not going to put any spoilers in here, but suffice it to say there is some really evocative fantasy elements in this particular game module supplement, some neat plot hooks for getting the player characters involved, and some excellent villains for the player characters to face during their time in the enchanted wood.
In many ways, The Enchanted Wood was, and still is, the measuring stick that I use to judge any adventure or campaign supplement for goodness, nay, greatness. There are very few adventures and the like that I've come across over the years for roleplaying games that have ever met or equalled this standard. The timelessness of this great adventure supplement, which can be used with other systems (although a bit of work on the GM's part will be necessary), is a testament to the greatness of this work, which Paul Jacquays still considers to be his best rpg work.
A shame it's long out of print and very, very hard to find.
