Day 31 – Favourite RPG of All Time

Well, you don't get the biggest, and toughest, question until the end, I guess. :)

This one's not easy. While a lot of folks will likely talk about an incarnation of Dungeons & Dragons or Call of Cthulhu, for me, my favourite RPG of all time has to be: DragonQuest.

While I started roleplaying with an incarnation of D&D, it was when I discovered the new DragonQuest RPG in 1979 (being playtested at the time) that I knew that I had found my fantasy game system. While the rpg had a wargame feel in writing and appearance of material in the book and a somewhat mathematical feel to it, the base game mechanics, the Magic system, the creatures, and the rationale for some of the game elements hit the *right* chord for me, fantasy game-wise. I ran DragonQuest for a very long time, almost 30 years, and there are players who were playing the children of their original characters in that game. Just so many great things about the game, to be honest.

And that's it, that's all she wrote. :)
