Anyway, went to see the Journey to the Center of the Earth 2008 movie with Kathy and SteveB late yesterday afternoon. We went to the Silver City theaters in Gloucester, and saw it in 3-D. While the special effects were fun (but how could they not be, given the 3-D version of the movie, right?) and the movie was a relatively enjoyable time, it was a pretty "Who cares?" experience on the scale of life. No real plot, not a lot of dinosaurs, and certainly not a heck of a lot of Hollow Earth stuff in it. A mindless, no brainer hour-and-whatever of entertainment, but that's all. Entertaining, certainly. Good movie, not. I've been debating going to see it again in regular release, just to see how different it feels, or maybe I'll just wait on the DVD release for that. And there's some stuff that I can rip off for my HEX game, for sure. :)
Personally, I still like the James Mason version of the movie better. That's just my $0.02.
