First up, the CanGames 2016 front. Cangames 2016 will be a four-day convention to celebrate the convention's 40th anniversary. I'm planning to run one adventure each day of the convention, so... While I want to run a couple of Chill 3rd Edition home-made scenarios to celebrate the convention theme, "Now and Then", I've encountered writer's block somewhat on both adventures. And I'm not sure why. Well, part of it has to do with the fact that I'm not sure what format to use for the writing of the scenarios, but I'm hoping that will be answered within the next few weeks or so. I'm also going to run some SkyRealms of Jorune, just one session, at the convention, but that one's already done up (same scenario that I ran back over a decade ago at one of the CanGames), and I'm looking for that. I've been contemplating running one other game as well, and that might be the Primeval RPG, though I could run another session of Chill 3rd Edition, likely one of the two adventures that have already been written for the game. If anyone has a suggestion on another system or game they'd like to see me run for the fourth session at CanGames, please drop me a line in the Comments.
Insofar as other RPG thoughts and all...
I'm pretty happy with the rpgs that I'm running or plan to run at the moment. Atlantis: The Second Age really hits all my (right) buttons for the fantasy rpg and the sword & sorcery feel works well for me, methinks. For the modern day rpgs, Primeval works well for me in terms of a modern-day rpg that has the dinosaur element going for me, and I'm pretty content with Chill 3rd Edition as the horror rpg. It allows me to run the game in any time period that I feel like, and with the horror sensibilities that I want, and does horror the way I like it. 'Nuff said. While I thought that I was going to run the River of Heaven sf rpg as the science fiction game, it really hasn't gelled with any of my gaming groups, but it looks like I'll be going with the Polaris SF when the English version of the 3rd Edition of that comes out. And in the meantime, I've decided that I'm also going to run the SkyRealms of Jorune RPG again from time to time. For a variety of reasons that I'm not going to go into here.
When it comes to the gaming groups that I've currently got going, I suspect there's some change(s) due to happen soon. The Friday night gaming group seems to be pretty stable at the moment, and I don't foresee any real changes happening with them. They might go with a once every two weeks approach to gaming for the winter, but we'll see. The plan right now is that they will start their Chill 3rd Edition campaign once they finish up the current Atlantis: The Second Age scenario that they're playing in. The Wednesday night gaming group seems to be having fun, but I think they're feeling a bit too much pressure on themselves to play every two weeks. They may switch to a once per month routine or not continue playing, though I know that two of the players really want to keep playing on Wednesday nights. They're currently enjoying the Chill 3rd Edition campaign quite a lot, and are looking forward to playing some SkyRealms of Jorune and going back to Primeval. And then we come to the Sunday afternoon group... The Sunday gaming group has consisted of two players for longer than I can remember, though every so often new players come in and join but then leave for various reasons. With spross having a crisis of gaming conscience, I'm not sure how long the Sunday group will continue. If spross decides to stop gaming, I don't think I can run a game with just Tammy, and to be honest, I'm at a loss of how to find some new gamers to work into the group. If anyone in the Ottawa area has a suggestion or two on this (or would like to join the Sunday gaming group), please drop me a line in the Comments. So, I'm not sure what the future of the Sunday gaming group is at this point, or if it has one.
Well, that was a much longer post than I expected it to be. Guess there were some things that I wanted to get on paper (in a manner of speaking), and perhaps these thoughts will give me some workable solutions to a couple of problems that I've expressed above.
