Reading Meme for 2015

I did this meme way back when, having obtained it from partofthequeue2. Figured I'd give it another go round.

1. Do you snack while you read? If so, favourite reading snack?
I sometimes snack while I read. Depends on the time of day, depends on whether I'm hungry. If I do snack when I'm reading, it's something light. Usually a fruit bottom yogurt, or perhaps some celery or cucumber slice and some cheese.

2. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
As a general rule, I don't tend to write in or mark my books. There are exceptions to that rule. I'll sometimes mark up some roleplaying books with notes and stuff, or errata, and if it's a text book that I own, then definitely will mark stuff up.

3. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmarks, always bookmarks. I hate people who dog-ear their books and never dog-ear my own, and I dislike opening the book wide to lay it flat open, especially if it's a 700-page paperback!

4. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
While I tend to read more fiction than anything else, I do enjoy books on history, archaeology, anthropology, and a few other subjects as well.

5. Hard copy, e-books, or audiobooks?
Definitely hard copy. I've listened to a couple of audio books, but find that I don't get the experience of the book too well from audio, and, depending on what else is going on around me, that can be distracting. I'm not a fan of e-books, being the old-fashioned book reader I am. :) Nothing beats the feel of a good paper book, especially a tome-like hardcover.

6. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I'm one of these folks who prefers to read to the end of a chapter, but sometimes one gets interrupted and can't do so. It annoys me. In those cases, I do have to read to the end of the paragraph.

7. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Write it down to look it up later? Just try to infer what it means from the rest of the sentence, and keep going?
A lot of the time I try to infer the word meaning from the rest of the sentence, but in the case of a technical book or some such, I do tend to look up the word straight away. I have a very good vocabulary, and am quite "word"y, so don't have this happen when I'm reading fiction and non-fiction all that often, but when it does, I look up the word right away.

8. What are you currently reading?
Neptune's Brood by Charles Stross. Also the issue of Locus magazine for September, 2015.

9. What is the last book you bought?
The Long Utopia by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter in hardcover.

10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can read more than one at a time?
I'm one of these folks that reads more than one book at a time. I read one book by day, and have a different book to read by night for bed-time reading. Can even juggle a magazine or a roleplaying game book in the midst of it all. :)

11. Do you like re-reading books?
That largely depends on the book and the author. There are certainly a few authors - Ursula K. Le Guin, Christopher Moore, Charles Stross, and a few others whose books I've read several times. Most of the books on my book shelves are "one read only", unfortunately.
