Friday night (January 29th), the Friday night gamers got together and continued to play in their Chill 3rd Edition RPG campaign. Here are the game session notes. You can read about the previous session of the campaign in this journal entry. This blog entry is somewhat long, so I've put it behind a cut so that folks who don't want to read any detailed rpg posts don't have to.
Alexandra "Alex" Scott (Kathy) - Television Journalist
Carole LaFlamme (Angela) - Bookstore Owner
Constable Andrew Harkness (DavidM) - Police Officer
Jennifer Upton (Ellie) - Sophomore University Student
Doctor Jason Harris (Mark) - Doctor
March 25th, 2014 (Tuesday)
...but Jennifer Upton is not taken in by the ruse [she succeeds at both a Perception check and a Horror Resolve check], and tells him that he's not a vampire. Constable Andrew Harkness, wearing his civvies, inquires if she's having any problems "with the gentleman", and then addresses him. Jennifer blows him a "Thank you!" kiss, and says that he was following her. Andrew flashes his badge at the man, who gives him a snarl, before heading down the nearest alley. Jennifer runs up to Andrew and gives him a tight hug, asking how he knew to come to her aid. Andrew says he didn't know she was there, but that he was looking into where the two female murder victims had been found during his off-hours. Jennifer says that they can't let the creature get away, and before Andrew can ask her what she means, she heads down the alley. Taking out his mobile phone, Andrew follows quickly after her. They get to the end of the alley, and are puzzled since there's no sign of the man/creature. And there's no way out. Jennifer says that she thinks it was an incubus/succubus beastie of some sort. Andrew takes a look around, but his investigative skills turn up nothing.
Wednesday morning (March 26th) dawns crisp and cold, but with a promise of warmth for the day. The morning news bears a report on another homeless person found dead near the Gladstone area the night before, Kate Falmor, a 28-year-old woman, who had recently sought help at a woman's shelter in the area but was denied. Eddie Graves assigns the story to Alexandra Scott, and she takes cameraman Ronald James on the job once more. Alexandra does interviews with several of the locals, and learns that "Katie" (as several of the local street people knew her) had been among them for about three weeks. She'd been tossed out of the local women's shelter a couple of days back. They attempt to get to Harmony House and see Sheila Finch, but are stonewalled, though her assistant, Melanie Thorpe, is willing to talk to her.
Dr. Jason Harris wakes that morning to begin a new shift, and starts his day at the Ottawa General with two victims of stabbings from a convenience store robbery the night before. During a break, he manages to go up to Geriatrics, where he pays a visit to Amy Schuyler. He finds she has a visitor, an attractive man with dark hair and green eyes, but after a cursory nod at the doctor and a muttered greeting, the man departs. Jason talks with Amy, and she tells him that she remembers something. She saw a woman, or perhaps a man, just before whatever happened to her occurred, but can't remember any more details. Jason thinks about matters, and realises that he may have seen the man man who visited Amy before, but he can't remember where.
Alexandra and Ronald James meet with Melanie Thorpe, who tells them a bit of what she knows (and looked up) on Kate Falmor. They learn Kate Falmor was in an abusive relationship with her husband, and ended up on the streets, but was denied entry into Harmony House due to certain "technicalities" (though she won't expand more on this). Alexandra tries to get Melanie to talk more about what she perceives as the problem in the Gladstone area, and Melanie lets slip that there have been a few other
strange "incidents" in the Gladstone area, but these don't concern Harmony House, so she won't discuss them.
Carole LaFlamme wakes somewhat refreshed and more alert after her session the day before with Dr. Hilda Matthews at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. She and Karl open up LaFlamme Books for the day, and business is brisk in the early morning. Carole is both pleased and surprised when Jennifer Upton visits the store (she looks somewhat pale, however, to the bookstore owner's eye). Jennifer tells Carole what happened the night before, and asks her what she knows about creatures called incubus or succubus. A lot, as it turns out, since she read something about them once in a SAVE archive. Incubi or succubi (they are one and the same creature) are creatures of the Unknown that take the form of male or female (depending on their target) and seduce or charm the target into the procreative act, wherein they drain the life force from the victim. She doesn't remember what their natural form is, but they are winged and can fly, and have several other Unknown powers as well. She doesn't remember what their weaknesses are, but they are known to prey on victims that they find attractive or who offer them something else, something intangible, in return. Carole places a call to Halle Whadjat, and asks her what she can learn for them about incubi/succubi, and get back to her. She also calls Alexandra Scott, and tells her what she's learned and about Jennifer's encounter the night before.
Alexandra does some research on the "technicalities" that prevented Kate Falmor from getting into Harmony House, and learns that one of the Board of Directors, Hiram Sharkam (whose photo she also brings up), opposed Kate's entry into Harmony House on grounds that are unclear, but that seem to have convinced the rest of the board about the matter. Her research on the strange "incidents" in the area of Gladstone and the Harmony House block prove more fruitful. She learns that several other people have been stalked and attacked in the area, and that two of the victims were old-age pensioners. Further digging, however, reveals that one of the victims, Agnes Halley, was also a homeless woman and that she was in her mid-30s.
Halle Whadjat gets back to Carole LaFlamme, and gets her some of the information she needs. She learns that there's only been one incubus/succubus incident in the Ottawa valley since the SAVE office was established there, and that was back in the 1970s. The case was considered a failure, since the creature was never dispersed or banished. Carole learns that the only way to banish an incubus/succubus is through a Christian exorcism or to confront the creature with a personal possession of a victim that the creature may have actually cared about or loved.
That evening, the player characters meet up at Alexandra's home, and discuss what they've learned of the cases each has been investigating and the common theme. When Alexandra compares notes with Andrew and Jennifer, they realise that the "man" who almost accosted Jennifer appears to be Hiram Sharkam. And Jason confirms that this was the same man that he saw in Amy Schuyler's room at the hospital. Alexandra dismisses the player characters for the night after discussing strategy, saying it's going to be a long day coming up.
Friday, January 29th's game session of the Chill 3rd Edition campaign was a fun one, highly informative, had some good roleplaying between the player characters, and offered a bit of something for everyone (other than combat). Angela commented that they really like the creature that they're dealing with this case (if it's the one they think it is!), and the others commented that it was good to see some plot threads all coming together in the session.
I was looking forward to the next session of the Chill 3rd Edition scenario with the Friday night group, and wasn't disappointed (as you'll see when I post last Friday's game session notes up).
