Amanda Tarrascon (Kathy) – Zoologist
Jessica Ransome (Angela) – Ex-Diplomat
Harrison Williams (DavidM) – Tourist Guide
Olivia Hamilton (Ellie) – Precocious Young Girl
Captain James Harris (Mark) - SAS Soldier
[The game session started off with a re-introduction of the game rules to the players, talk about the world of Primeval, and going through the mechanics of the game system, both combat and regular task resolution. (This was also to the benefit of Mark, who has never played the game until now.) After going over the most recent events in the Friday night campaign, the players took part in several sample combats, again mostly for Mark's benefit, and then we started the game session.]
It has been roughly three months since the player characters were involved in some work for the Home Office, and during a lunch gathering, several of the characters admit to missing the excitement of late. "Be careful what you wish for," Harrison Williams tells Amanda Tarrascon and Jessica Ransome, "as we might get something too exciting, possibly." The three discuss the departure of medic David Bannister, Captain Alex(ander) Taylor, and computer geek Jenny Hansford; while they wish them well in their new endeavours, they sorely miss them. Harrison comments that he's still not sure about Alexander's replacement, Captain James Harris, who's been on the job for a couple of months, though he's not yet led a field team against a serious incursion.
Back at the Home Office, relative newcomer Captain James Harris is conducting a training exercise with his SAS men. He receives a good deal of resistance from them, as he's not been "field tested" (according to several of the men and women serving under him). After the exercises are over, the frustrated James goes to talk with his new team's handler under James Lester, Archibald Lewis. Lewis tells him that he's got to give Amanda, Jessica, and Harrison time to get used to his presence. They'd got very close to his predecessor, but James tells him he's not there to make friends. Lewis dismisses him, and James heads for a local pub.
Olivia Hamilton is spending part of the day at the library, doing some research on prehistoric beasties and dinosaurs. She researches what she can on Dinofelis and Gigantopithecus Blacki, but realises that she learned more about the creatures during her adventure in Nottingham (see the previous scenario) then what's written in the books. She decides that she wants to visit Amanda Tarrascon or go and spend some time with Jenny Hansford rather than spend time with her so-called friends. Her mother, Eileen, arrives at the library to pick her up, and Olivia perks up when her mother tells her they're going to the shopping centre to purchase some new, fall clothes.
Friday night's game session of the Primeval RPG went rather well, better than I had expected, and the players got back into the swing of things relatively quickly, though not a lot happened. Due to going over a lot of ground for Mark's benefit, notably the game mechanics and combat, we got to playing a bit later than I would have liked. Everyone enjoyed the evening, and Mark told me that he rather likes the system from what he's experienced of it so far, and that he hopes he'll be able to protect Kathy's zoologist and the rest of the team. Good luck with that! :)
I'm looking forward to next Friday's night session.
