The players all arrived around 7:10 pm for the evening's gaming. We sat around chatting for a good 20 minutes, since the group has not gotten together in a few weeks, and caught up on life and the world, and then settled in for an evening of board games.
It was decided that we would start out with the new board game that I received in snail mail earlier this week, The Great Dinosaur Rush, and see how things went with that. So that's what we did.
Started with setting up the gaming table for the evening. Since the board is so small, compared to most other board games that we've played recently, it was decided not to open the table up with another leaf or two. Here's a picture of the game components for The Great Dinosaur Rush. (Sorry for the slightly blurry photo.)
Once set-up of the game was finished, which took a bit of time due to the placing of three (3) dinosaur bones in each hex of the dig site,
we proceeded to get ready to play and went over the game rules. The game was quite a lot of fun, and we all had a pretty good time. Since the game is set for between 2 and 5 players and there were six (6) of us, Ellie teamed up with Mark to play one of the player positions for the game.
I'm not going to go over the game rules here, or any of the stuff that specifically happened in the game, other than to say that my goddaughter played a somewhat explosive game (Dynamiting a couple of times, and thus gaining Notoriety) :), but she lost in the end; the Notoriety cost her points at the end of the game, allowing Angela to take the win. Suffice to say that a good time was had playing the game, though I did lose of course (coming in 3rd overall), and it was quite remarkable to see how things came out in terms of the building of the dinosaurs (which is the really cool part of the game).
We played a second game of The Great Dinosaur Rush before the players decided they wanted to do something else as well, and played a couple of games of Pandemic as well for the night, and a good time was had with that as well.
Overall, it was a nice social evening of board gaming with the Friday night gaming group, and a relaxing evening for the most part. Just what I needed, to be honest.
