The players showed up a bit before 7:00 pm, and we sat around and chatted for a bit, catching up on the events of the weeks past, and then got down to business. I started off with giving the players an overview of the game universe of the Third Horizon, and the players were even more intrigued. We talked about the basic mechanics system, and they were even more pleased, as it's nice and simple. We got to talking about the basics of character generation, and after the players threw a few questions at me in regards to that, we started the character generation process in earnest.
The evening was definitely an interesting one with a bit of humour to go along with it's...flavour, and the players had a good time creating their characters and working out some issues among themselves, notably the character relationships.
I will say that the evening was definitely an interesting, and fun, time of it, with the players having a good time with character creation, and working out a few things among themselves about some of the various issues and elements of the different characters they created. An interesting mix of characters to be sure.
The players determined that for their Group Concept they are smugglers. They operate in a small sector of the Third Horizon, and are not fond of portal travel if they can avoid it.
Donna - Donna seemed to have given the character a lot of thought, and created the character of Adila Kharoujam, a Diplomat from one of the outlying worlds in the Horizon, who needed a change of occupation. She snuck aboard the characters' ship, and after being discovered, was found to have other abilities. Her buddy is Saliha Twarafat.
DavidW - He liked the idea of playing the smuggler, but settled on the scientist (actually, a medicurg) named Ridwan Omakht. With strong convictions and beliefs, the character's role in life is to help others. He's also looking for his missing sister, Awarma. At the same time, there's a bit of Darkness within as well. His buddy is Mumtaz Mahali.
Kendall - She made an interesting choice in her character, as Saliha Twarafat is a dock worker from Dabaran who joined the crew of the ship for a bit of adventure and a lot of lust (she's hot for Ridwan). The character's name is ironic, as Saliha means "virtuous" and the character is anything but. Her buddy is Ridwan Omakht.
Crystal - Crystal decided she wanted to go somewhat "traditional" for the genre, and she created Mumtaz Mahali, the pilot of the character's ship. She's an oddball, however, in that she's fascinated with the Emissaries, likes nothing but a good bar brawl, and has a fondness for ywalgo (a stiff drink made from cacti on one of the planets). Her buddy is Adila Kharoujam.
The game session went for a period of just about 3-1/2 hours (a little over 1/2 an hour longer than usual), and the players and I had a lovely time creating the characters for the game. The "Firefly meets the Arabian Nights" premise really appealed to them, and I was pretty pleased with the characters they each created. There was some interesting discussion after we were done about the game system and its mechanics, but they all agreed that it's a really good, simple-to-learn, flexible game system. And they're dying to play the campaign I've got in mind now! :)
Overall, it was a good night of character creation. Coriolis - The Third Horizon promises to be a fun, interesting game system, and I'm looking forward to running the game system (hopefully in the near future).
