This was a good night for me, as I got to play once more. As mentioned in this post last week, DavidM showed up last Friday night and surprised me and several of the other players by announcing he was going to run a game of Sixcess Core and (we) the players decided to play a fantasy game. As noted in that previous post, I created Haven Randar, a foresty type with skill with a bow (and a secret or two).
After the players arrived around 7:00 pm or so, we spent about 10 minutes catching up on the week, and discussing the flu shot and whether one should get it. (I got mine earlier in the week, so I'm good on this.) Once we'd socialised a bit, DavidM said it was time to get down to gaming. He went over the world for the fantasy game that he'd created, the continent of Selvris, and we filled in some of the blanks (notably languages and the like) on our characters, and then got down to play.
Herna of Morspell (Kathy) - Swordswoman
Safira Markas (Angela) - Sorceress?
Adara Theniss (Ellie) - Thief
Barak Thar (Mark) - Caravan guard
Haven Randar (JohnK) - Forester
Haven Randar started off on the outskirts of the Felern Wood, hunting some game for the villagers of Felan who'd hired him to do so. As I tracked the game I was hunting, a large buck, I heard the sounds of arguing followed by the clash of swords. Moving in that direction, I came upon a female swordswoman (KathyB's character) being set upon by three ruffians. I fired a shot with my bow, seriously wounding one of them, and fought the other one who charged me, leaving the swordswoman to take on the third. We quickly dispatched the two, and I learned her name was Herna of Morspell. We travelled on together for a short distance, and made a small camp. After I cleaned her wounds and bandaged her (with Herna's help!), I hunted down a brace of rabbits, and we enjoyed a good meal together. Camping for the night, we talked and learned about one another, and I was impressed with Herna's feats of accomplishment.
The next morning, we rose and decided to continue travelling together. The forest was quiet, and I was concerned, but Herna said that she thought we were being followed. As it turned out we were, by a young girl, Adara Theniss (Ellie). Adara tried to rob us during a respite to re-fill our water canteens, but I quickly stopped her. Herna took pity on "the waif", and when we learned she was travelling to the town of Karakoram, Herna (who was going there herself) insisted that she accompany us. I was somewhat resistant to this, as Adara was up to no good (I have a sense for these things), but Herna was insistent. So we travelled on.
As evening was settling on the world, the three of us came upon a caravan that was stopped beside the road. I inquired as to where the road led, and was pleased to learn it was the road to Karakoram. The caravan master, Feludad, welcomed us, and invited us to join them for the evening meal and for safety and companionship. We did so, and encountered several people among them, including Barak Thar (Mark), one of the caravan guards, and Safira Markas (Angela), who claimed to be a "mere" traveller, but whom we suspected of being a sorceress. We settled down with the caravan personnel for the night, and got some rest... but were disturbed in the night by a call to arms by Barak that there were "wolves" circling...
Overall, it was a fun night of gaming, and I rather enjoyed being on the other side of the GM Screen with DavidM running the game. I like the Sixcess Core rules, aside from how damage values are recorded (but that's more a matter of getting some experience with them). DavidM's created an interesting world (from what we've seen of it so far), and I hope that I get a decent chance to explore this game world some more (actually a whole lot!). :)
Looking forward to next week's game session, to be sure. :)
