Friday Night Game Report - Coriolis - The Third Horizon RPG Session 5

Despite the nasty weather conditions on Friday night, the Friday night gaming group played last night and continued on with their campaign of the Coriolis - The Third Horizon RPG of Arabian Nights in space. You can read about the previous game session by following the link. This post is somewhat long, so I've put it behind a cut for those who don't want to read about my roleplaying game campaigns.

Naima Saab (KathyB) - Trailblazer (Scout)
Hafisa darRouash (Angela) - Pilot (Freighter Pilot)
Zouma Abid-Arif (Ellie) - Stowaway/Ship Worker (Engineer)
Moustafa Harouz (DavidM) - Negotiator (Peddler)
Tafik Sharoun (Mark) - Scientist (Archaeologist)

First Triad, Dancer Segment, Day 11, CC 58

Naima Saab is shocked, then surprised, to see Blake Harold. She explains to the others that she and Blake go way back, to when she first became part of the Foundation Scout service, and they served aboard the same ship, the Flower of Darouz. Zouma Abid-Arif starts to ask her something, but Blake interrupts, telling the others that Naima is understating their relationship. She asks what he's doing working as security chief on Mira station, but he merely says that he might tell her over dinner. The Governor informs Harold of why she's requested his presence, and he informs the player characters that Sumala Fadros is afraid for her life, given what has seemingly occurred down on Mira. Sumala insisted that, after being treated, she be taken back to her quarters in the Market Plaza of the station, and the medicurgs didn't have room for her, since others were also injured during the shootout, so they complied with her request.

Naima says that it would be good idea for him to go with her to see Sumala. Moustafa Harouz says that since they will have to plan to go down to Mira shortly, perhaps he should check out the Market Plaza, and see what goods they might be able to pick up for a few birr. "Never know when we might need some trade goods," he adds. He says that he'll take Zouma with him, since he'll be able to teach her a little bit while in the Plaza. She's not keen on going with him, but reluctantly agrees to do so. Hafisa darRouash says that she'll go with Naima and Harold, as perhaps she might be able to find out from some of the people in the area what's going on. Blake Harold says he doubts that, but she's welcome to come with them. Naima glowers at her and shakes her head, but Hafisa ignores her. Tafik Sharoun says that he'll do a bit of digging into the state of things on Mira, and see what he can learn. Governor Demorna din Soubar says that she can offer the assistance of her personal assistant, Darisa Marakis, in this regard, and he's pleased to accept the young woman's help. The Governor tells the player characters that while she's happy to help them any way she can, she will not tolerate any problems on the station, nor interference with the Miran government's handling of the "situation" on Mira itself.

Leaving the Governor's office, Naima goes and checks a station directory for information on where to find Sumala Fadros's dwelling, but finds access to the information is now limited. Blake tells her that it's for her own protection, and tells Naima and Harisa that he can lead the way. Harisa asks him to tell her more about how he met Naima, but a look from the scout quells anything he might say. Instead, he tells the two of them that Sumala and several other civilians were caught in the crosshairs between two rival gangs on the station, the Haddar and the Kamallah families. There were some thirty-five people injured in the confrontation near the Semazil Souk in the Market Plaza, and it's lucky the violence didn't escalate as station security arrived on the scene relatively quickly. Hafisa asks the scout if she wants to talk to people in the area where the attack occurred, but Naima says that'll depend on what Sumala Fadros can tell them. Blake leads them quickly to the Fadros dwelling in the residential area to the "north" side of the main marketplace. The smells, noise, and sights in the Market are typical, but not as pronounced as on Coriolis station. The residences are small, three-story homes at best, and the Fadros home appears to be typical. Blake regards the two women, and asks them if they've noticed the cloaked figure that's been following them most of the way. Naima smiles, and says she's been wondering when he was going to say something about it.

Meanwhile, Moustafa and Zouma head for the main Market. Zouma is all excited about the prospect, but Moustafa tells her this is ship's business. They need to make a smart, savvy deal for some goods, but Zouma asks if they're going to do some restock for the ship as well. Mosutafa says he's not sure yet, depends on the prices, but Zouma says she can help. He tells her he knows she comes from the system, and she seems disappointed in him. Before she can say more, as they are assaulted by the sounds, smells, and sights of the Market Plaza, he tells her that they're being followed. Passing some birr around, Moustafa learns of a trader, Bastak the Giant, who sells trinkets and spare parts at one of the stalls on the south side of the market. They head in that direction, but Zouma points out a couple of other vendors that she thinks would be worth approaching as well. Half an hour later, Zouma says "I told you so!" to Moustafa, after he's completed a deal for around 2,000 Birr worth of foodstuffs for the ship's stores. They then continue on, headed for Bastak's. Moustafa notes that their snake's tail is still with them.

Darisa Marakis takes Tafik in hand, and leads him for her office on the same floor as that of Governor din Soubar. The two talk amiably as they walk, and he asks Daris what she can tell him of the attack on Mira involving Professor Darfal ibn Salumar. She tells him that the information she currently has is scant, but that it appears that the Professor has disappeared from the dig site he was at on the southern continent. Details are sketchy, but some reports indicate he was taken prisoner by some of the Miran rebels affiliated with the local mob, the Okra Darma, and others are reporting that the Professor has gone into hiding due to something he found during the dig. Tafik asks if this latter might have something to do with why Professor ibn Salumar asked for his presence on the planet. Darisa merely shrugs, and then says they've arrived. The two enter her office, and she accesses the files on what's known about the situation on Mira. He learns that the rebels are something new on Mira, and that there's a good many possibilities for what accounted for Professor ibn Salumar's disappearance. Including the legend of something called "the Ensnarer". Darisa scoffs at that, saying that it's a myth among the pilgrims, but Tafik says that there's usually some truth in various myths, so it may bear keeping in mind. Darisa leaves him to go over the files, but says she'll be readily accessible if he needs to talk to her.

Friday night's game session of the Coriolis - The Third Horizon campaign went pretty well, and I had a pretty good time. Given that the weather wasn't cooperating, I was surprised the players wanted to play at all, so that was a good sign. Because the weather seemed to get worse, the snow falling heavily as the evening went on, the players decided to stop play just after 10 pm, so the game session lasted for only about 2-1/2 hours. I managed to give the players a good feel for Mira station, and there was some fun roleplaying between the characters during the course of the evening as well. Angela and DavidM told me that the plot is intriguing as heck, and they're looking forward to seeing what happens.

Overall, a fun session of the Coriolis - The Third Horizon RPG, and I'm looking forward to next Friday night's game, weather and health willing.
