I woke up Sunday morning feeling tired and unrested, as I do every morning these days for reasons I've made clear in my blog entries before, but had a nice pancake breakfast and then took an early shower. Did some cleaning up downstairs before going up for lunch.
spross had agreed to come over and game, sort of. We went through the mechanics of the forthcoming John Carter of Mars - The Roleplaying Game, and he used the character of Kantos Kan. We went through basic mechanics, some samples of how the game might run using a few test "encounters" that I set up, and finally some combat sequences (just to see how those worked).
The game mechanics (especially those for combat) for the John Carter of Mars - The Roleplaying Game are...smooth. Nothing feels forced, the lack of skills makes the game run really well as the GM tells the player the Difficulty of the task and what Attributes to use, though the GM and player can negotiate as desired over which Attributes should be used for a task. There were a couple of glitches that I encountered using the Quickstart rules (which are all I have until some time in March supposedly), but nothing that I couldn't deal with/interpret for myself.
Had a good time, and it was nice to get some gaming in once more.
