Early Day, and Some Thoughts

It's just after 7:15 am, and I am already here at work. The project that I am working on is one that needs to be finished this week, before I start my two weeks vacation (including the trip to Gen Con Indy), and so for the last two weeks I have been putting in very long hours.

Back at home, I am still laptop-less. Since I can't really do any creative writing at the moment, I have been doing quite a bit of reading. I've just finished a couple of Roman mysteries, Nobody Loves a Centurion and The Tribune's Curse, both by John Maddox Roberts. Very enjoyable books in his S.P.Q.R. series. I'm currently reading Lindsey Davis's Scandal Takes a Holiday, another of the Falco novels, and am rather enjoying the book as well.

In the meantime, I've helped out spross with a bit of work on the Hollow Earth Expedition scenario that he'll be running at Gen Con, doing up a couple of characters and a few odds and ends, so it's not like I'm being idle. Given the amount of time I'm spending on the computer here at work on the project, I really have no real desire to do so at home these days, so perhaps things are for the better that I don't have a laptop right now.

My cup of herbal tea is ready, and I see that Donna's just come into the office. I need to get back to the grindstone.

Data Recovery Dollar Blues

Spent my coffee break on the phone this morning with three places that deal in data recovery and the like. The news is not good. Because they use specialized software and equipment for doing this sort of thing, the cost for transferring the data off my old laptop hard drive will run around $400-$800. Only one place offered to do it for less than that, around $250, but they do this only a special basis, and would take 2 months to get the job done.

I think I'm going to have to find another means of getting the data off the old hard drive onto another medium.

In the meantime, gotta start thinking about getting ready for Gen Con, but for now, back to the grindstone.

Birthday Wishes!

Happy Birthday, nearside!

May the Goddess bless you with good health, good choices, prosperity, and a year filled with joy and happiness.

In the meantime, I hope the pain of the teeth business settles down and eases for you.

Have a great birthday, mate! :)
