Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day, everyone! :)

Today is the day when we celebrate Gaia, Mother Nature, and all that goes along with that. While it's fine to celebrate today and all that, please remember to treat the planet right. It's the only one we've got.

Bluesfest Announces Line-Up

Yesterday, the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest announced its line-up for the blues festival that runs from July 6th to the 18th this year.

The festival for this year has been broken up into two week-long blocks with a day of recovery in between. Interesting way of handling it this year. Anyway, the blues festival is in 16th edition this year, and there's some really interesting artists playing this year. The stuff I definitely want to get to, and will try to do so, include...

Week 1

The B-52s - July 8th, 9:30 pm

Babe Ruth - July 9th, 9:15 pm

Joan Jett - July 9th, 8:00 pm

Metric - July 10th, 7:00 pm

Renaissance - July 8th, 7:45 pm

Week 2

Crowded House - July 15th, 9:30 pm

Great Big Sea - July 16th, 9:30 pm

Matthew Good - July 15th, 8:00 pm

Santana - July 14th, 9:30 pm

Steve Winwood - July 14th, 8:00 pm

These are just some of the highlights for me that I really want to see, but some of them conflict with others. There's over 200 different acts performing this year at Bluesfest, and I'm really looking forward to this. Gonna be a great July, methinks! :>

Afternoons and Evenings

Got home from work today, and have spent pretty much a leisurely afternoon reading and doing a few other things that I've wanted to do, notably watching the replacement DVDs of the Christopher Eccleston series of Doctor Who that I had purchased on Amazon. The fourth disc was faulty, and so I was able to get a replacement set from the folks at Amazon, but am working my way through the other discs as well to make sure they are good.

Yesterday afternoon and evening was spent with my goddaughter, Ellie, as her mom and dad just needed some time on their own. We spent the afternoon reading together, watched an hour-long DVD that she really likes, and had some homemade pasta with meat sauce and a salad for dinner. The evening was spent with Ellie on my home computer and her doing some of her homework while I did a bit of reading.

In the meantime, it's almost time to think of supper.

Barsoom Books to Replace

Spoke too soon about having a good afternoon today. I am now seriously pissed off at the insurance company that has been handling the replacement of the books that went down in the sewage flood of 2009.

One of the things that I had was a complete set of the Leonaur hardcover editions of the John Carter of Mars series in the six hardcover volumes that Leonaur did. The problem is that the last two volumes in the set

John Carter of Mars Vol. 5: Synthetic Men of Mars & Llana of Gathol

John Carter of Mars Vol. 6: John Carter & the Giants of Mars and Skeleton Men of Jupiter

don't seem to be available any longer on the Leonaur website, and everywhere that I've looked for these volumes in hardcover, the prices I've seen are over $200 each. The insurance company is willing to replace many of the titles that I lost in the flood, but not these two because of their "outlandish" price.

If any of my friends or anyone else out there reading this post knows where I can find these two books, preferably in the Leonaur hardcover editions (so as to match the other four that I have), at a reasonable price, please drop me a line and let me know.
