State of JohnK

Had a very good evening playing Desolation last night with the Friday gaming group. Will be posting the write-up on the game once I manage to transcribe it all.

The morning here in Ottawa started with a bang, with a major thunderstorm last night that woke me up around 3:45. Considering that I had only gotten to bed close to 2 am, this was not a welcome thing. The day is a relatively cool one, around 22oC (71.6oF), with high humidity, and it is raining and wet.

Been up since about 7:00 am, and have already been out and picked up some veggie groceries, as I'm trying to eat relatively healthy these days (other than for my upcoming birthday, of course). Stopped off to make sure that the birthday cake is on order and that everything is correct for it. Lots of stuff on tap today, and need to go out later to buy a birthday card for my friend Tammy (see celebrates her birthday on July 2nd, the day before I do).

Other than that, some reading, some getting ready for Sunday's game of Desolation, and a bit of music appreciation is in my future today. :)

Origins and GenCon Thoughts - and Question

As most of the gaming world knows, this weekend is the Origins Game Fair , being held in Columbus, Ohio from June 23rd to the 27th. On the heels of this, the GenCon game convention is coming up from August 5th through the 8th in about a month and a bit.

While I haven't been to an Origins in a good 15 years or so, I did go to GenCon back in 2008, and am planning to go to GenCon 2011, and I have a question for the folks who go to both conventions year after year...

How do you manage to do this? I mean, both conventions are huge, but they're separated by about a month. How do folks manage to refuel the personal tank, so to speak, and manage to go to both conventions?

And, if you had to choose between them, which convention, Origins or GenCon, would you go to, and why?

Happy Birthday, MB!

Happy birthday, aearwen2!!

Today is my favourite California friend's birthday. I've known aearwen2 for...well since the days of Fidonet (and that dates both of us, yes it does!). Oddly enough, we've never met. We've been virtual friends, sharing our lives for many, many years now, and I love her like a sister.

Happy Birthday, my dear! May the Goddess bless you with good health, good cheer, good trade winds, prosperity, and another interesting year in the life.

Goddess bless ya, dear! :)
