The Start of a Long Weekend, Soon

Ah, Friday has finally arrived...

It's been a long week, marred in many ways by some truly annoying incidents and occurrences, but to be honest, I'm just glad the week is over even if I'm not fond of the return of the truly hot weather here in the city of Ottawa and its environs.

The fact that I now don't have a car again, until the folks at the Chrysler dealer figure out what's wrong with my engine, has made the turn in the weather somewhat worse for me, since my exposure to the heat is not a good thing. It's made me feel a bit worse for the wear and all that, and I'm hurting in a few places that...well, the less said about that, the better.

On the other hand, this is the Canada Day weekend, and so there's a lot to look forward to in that regard. Also, more importantly to me on a personal level, this is the start of a month of gaming where I will not be running the games. With the Friday night group, Nick Roberts will be running a game starting this evening, and on Sunday, spross will begin running a game as well. Both these games will run for the entire month of July (at least, that's the plan), thus giving me a whole month to actually play in games, and not have to GM. That's one of the better birthday presents that I'll be getting this year. (Oh, did I not mention that my birthday is next week? And so, coincidentally, is the anniversary of this LiveJournal.)

In any event, looking forward to the weekend. :)

Of Cars, Gaming, and Long Weekends

Came home from work about ten minutes ago, and there was a message for me on the answering machine from the folks at Chrysler.

I called them back to find out what's going on with the car. The Chrysler dealer told me that they think they've found the problem. There is a pair of engine sensors that are acting up with the car and giving false information and reports, causing the car to react the way it has been. In any event, they've replaced the two sensors, and he is taking the car home with him this (long, at least in Canada) weekend to test things out, put the car through its paces, and make sure the car is driving properly. (Just thinking about how much petrol that's going to cost me!)

However, for now, I get to look forward to a long weekend, some early birthday celebrations, and good friends and some good gaming - WHERE I AM NOT RUNNING THE GAMES, I AM *PLAYING* IN THEM! wOOOOOOOT!

a|state RPG Character Creation - Handry Burkel

Given that I'm currrently running the a|state RPG campaign on both my gaming groups (well, I will be again, as soon as August comes around, since I'm getting to play in rpgs for the entire month of July), I thought I would give everyone an example of character creation for the a|state Roleplaying Game. Especially in light of the fact that I've never done so in my blog before. :)

Game: a|state Roleplaying Game
Publisher: Contested Ground Studios
Degree of Familiarity: Very high. I've been running the a|state RPG now since the game first got mentioned and discussed back in 2002, using the a|stateLite rules, and these days use the actual rulebook for this purpose.
Books Required: The a|state Roleplaying Game rulebook.

Please note that this post is quite long, as I've gone into the game mechanics a bit in terms of character creation, and have provided background on the character and the choices. Hence the majority of this post is behind the cut.

And there you have the character that I created for the a|state Roleplaying Game. Character generation in a|state can take a while, due to filling in the Character Questionnaire, as noted in the example above, so the process could take a good three (3) hours or so; an experienced player can likely create a character for the system in around 1 hour; a newbie to the game might take a good 4 hours for the first time, maybe longer, depending on how good an idea the player has for the Character Concept, but once that is accomplished, the rest of the character should fall into place.

Anyway, I hope this encourages you to take a look at the game and its game system.

Thoughts, comments, and questions about the game stuff and the character are welcome. :)
