Day 13 – Most Memorable Character Death
This one is a no-brainer.
One of the game systems that I ran was the Universe SF RPG
, published back in the day by SPI. I ran a very enjoyable, lots of fun campaign on two gaming groups for some time during the 1980s, and into the early 2000s.
I don't remember the details of the character in question any more or the scenario itself, but suffice it to say the adventure had to do with the prologue to an invasion of human Federation space by a shape-shifting alien species. In the game, Tammy's character, an explorer, had been injured quite badly and was being taken to the medical facility on the planet the player characters were on, being aided by spross
's character. Tammy knew that the doctor in the med facility had been replaced by one of the alien shape-shifters, and that she was going to die if spross
's character took her to the lab. The entire roleplaying sequence that was done was simply magnificent, and Tammy and her character went bravely into the jaws of the proverbial lion, and died a magnificent death.
It was one of the best sequences/moments of roleplaying that I've had in my gaming time, and a great example of a player keeping their knowledge of what the player knows or suspects separate from what the character knows. A true highlight of gaming.
