How I Spent My Christmas Day

Yesterday was Christmas Day. Being a single fellow, with little family left in the world, 'twas a day where I got to spend much of it on my own.

I woke up to a lovely Christmas Day surprise - my blood sugar was under 7 for the first time in over a week. Good start to the day.

After a nice, hot breakfast, I went back to bed for a bit of a nap, and then got up and did some writing on an a|state scenario that I had in mind, and then did some updating of files on the game while I was at it. I followed this up with some reading, and managed to finish up the Chris Hadfield book, An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, that I'd been reading on and off for the last week or. After showering, it was an early lunch, and then I sat down and watched the third and final of the Librarian films. Highly enjoyable movie, The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice, with some interesting casting choices.

I followed this up with a bit of vacuuming and reorganising of books and stuff in my den, and then went upstairs and watched a couple of episodes of Bomb Girls Season Two. Lots of fun. I then went back to doing some more work on a game, this time the River of Heaven game, and a couple of ideas I have for scenarios and some pre-generated characters that I've got in mind. That was pretty creative, to be honest, and some good stuff came out of that. Finally, to wrap up the rpg work for the day, I finished up the final preparation for tonight's Christmas special adventure that I've got for the Friday night group, "A Primeval Christmas", for the Primeval RPG. I'm rather looking forward to running this tonight.

I managed to squeeze in a second nap right before supper, and had myself a healthy meal with mom of some roast beef, a salad, some cooked greens, and lentils with cumin and onion. Yumm! After supper, I cleaned up the dishes, and then sat back and did some more (re-)reading, finishing up Isaac Asimov's Foundation and Empire, and then got ready for the evening's Doctor Who Christmas special, "Last Christmas". All I will say about the episode is that it was probably the best Doctor Who stories of the current season, and Peter Capaldi was absolutely brilliant in this one again.

I wrapped up the evening with my nightly insulin shot, and then went to bed and did some more reading before falling asleep.

As folks can see, a pretty mundane kind of day, nothing Christmas-y about it, but a pleasant day off work for me. :)

Boxing Day Gaming

Under normal circumstances, the Friday night gaming group would not be playing today given that it's Boxing Day and the long weekend...

That said, the Friday gaming group decided that they wanted to play this evening, but not the regular campaign that we've got going on right now of the a|state RPG. When I asked Kathy, Angela, David, Mark, and Ellie what they'd like to play, the group discussed it and said they'd like to do a Christmas-y game session of whatever roleplaying game I'd like to run.

So I spent parts of the past week working up a neat little premise for a Christmas themed one-shot session adventure for the Primeval RPG, and I'll be running that this evening.

Really looking forward to this, and the looks on my gamers faces when they figure some of the stuff out that they're dealing with in this holiday themed adventure. :)

Time for Some Dinosaur Gaming, with Christmas Surprises

I've spent the latter part of this afternoon doing some reading of the Primeval RPG rulebook, as I figured it was a good idea to refresh my memory about the game rules and the like for the game, since I'll be running it this evening.

I'm looking forward to running this scenario of the game, which I'm calling "A Primeval Christmas", for various reasons. First off, I haven't run the Primeval RPG in some time, and it's a game that I really like. Second, it's a Christmas-oriented scenario that I've created for the players, and I'm hoping they'll enjoy it. And I wouldn't mind running a Boxing Day game every year, if possible.

Anyway, time to head upstairs and see what I can make for supper. After that, an evening of Christmas-y gaming lies ahead, and am looking forward to this.

Have a good evening, all.
