A Dentistry Thursday

Sitting in the office, busy as a beaver at work this morning. It's not too bad a morning outside, the temperature being in the negative single digits Celsius for a change, so relatively "warm" as January winters go.

Today is going to be a stressful day.

I'll be leaving the office around 11 am, as I've got a dentist appointment this morning for 11:30 am. This is the appointment to fix and repair the filling in my tooth, and I have to hope that there's no decay below the filling or I could be in need of a root canal. And I really hate those.

After the dentist, I'll head home for the afternoon, with my frozen mouth, and see how I feel. But I think that napping after a soup lunch may be called for.

By the way, have I mentioned that I hate dentists? And really hate needles in the mouth? Uggh.

Post-Dentistry Thoughts

Got home from the dentist a little before 2:00 pm.

The good news is that the filling had to be replaced, and that there was no sign of decay under the filling or below the gum (since the filling was at a lower part of the tooth in question, and NO! there will be no photographs of it).

The bad news was that the whole experience in the dentist's chair reminded me of why I effing hate/fear dentists. While the needle injections (yes, I had two) weren't too bad because of the numbing agent applied to the gum before the injections, the pain in my jaw afterward, not to mention the muscular stress put on the whole area by the procedure itself... well, it *hurts* now that the freezing has worn off.

I have taken two Tylenols, so hope that the pain will diminish. Now that I am awake, after napping for part of the afternoon, I am also *hungry*. Need to pursue food. And something to drink, but not too hot or too cold. The area is sensitive.

I'm just glad that the tooth is healthy, other than the filling having to be replaced. Avoiding a root canal due to decay under the filling and in the below gumline area is a big win today! Yay me! :)

Wednesday Night Game Report - Fvlminata: Armed with Lightning Character Creation

Last night (Wednesday), the usual gaming group met up for gaming purposes. Since they had wrapped up their game case of the Chill 3rd Edition RPG campaign, they told me during the week leading up to last night that they wanted to play some Fvlminata: Armed with Lightning, and wanted to create their player characters (what the game calls personae). I was happy to go along with this. :)

Once the players all showed up for the evening, a little before 7:00 pm, we talked for a few minutes while everyone got settled in and ready for the evening, and caught up a bit on the last couple of weeks. Then we got down to business. I started off going through the basics of what the world of the Roman Empire is/was like, answered a slew of questions from the four players about some of the aspects of the Roman world and the setting and mechanics of Fvlminata: Armed with Lightning, and we also covered what the players would like to see and do, and not see and do. Character generation in Fvlminata: Armed with Lightning is really quite simple once you get past the basics of the game (see the write-up on Claudius Edipius Macarus that I posted earlier this month), and the players were quite jazzed to get going and do up their personae.

I have to say, the evening was an interesting one, with the players having a good time of character creation, and came up with an interesting mix of personae. Not to mention, an interesting campaign premise for a series of adventures [fabulae.

Donna - She usually knows what she wants, and she had a good idea in this one. Donna created and will be playing Claudia Acallia, the owner of a tavern cum restaurant [caupona]. She's got an interesting background for the place and her history, and it will be fun to see that unfold.

DavidW - David's got a good knowledge of Roman history and the time. Since the others wanted to play a more "street level" game, David created Lucius Severius, one of the night watchmen [vigiles] of Rome, who also has a bit of a past as a legionary in Gaul. The character has aspirations...

Kendall - She doesn't know a lot about Roman times and the "Roman way" (her words), but Kendall came up with a neat concept. Flavia Longina, a young, up-and-coming artist who is shunned by her family, though her brother is protective of her, now that she lives in the Subura.

Crystal - Crystal's been really up to playing in this game, and came up with a neat persona. She's playing Harmonia Meletia the Golden-Haired, a former wife to an Equestrian who was banished under unusual circumstances. There's more to this character than just her hair colour! :)

Overall, I was rather impressed with the player characters that the Wednesday nighters came up with for the Fvlminata RPG, and I think that it will make for an interesting game campaign. Crystal and Donna were pleased with themselves for what they created, and there should be an interesting mix of personalities when the game plays out. :)

All in all, it was a good night of character creation. I'm looking forward to starting the Fvlminata: Armed with Lightning game next time the players get together.
