Unboxing Barsoom III - The Players Guide

As noted, I've started to unbox the materials from my John Carter of Mars Roleplaying Game</i> Kickstarter backer pledge box of goodies that arrived. The second unbox journal entry covered the Collector's Slipcase of the rulebook and the campaign book for the game, which you can see by following the link as noted.

Next up are the photos of the Player's Guide for the game.

This lovely portrait (rather than landscape) book of 148 pages is designed for players (though it does give away several of the secrets about Barsoom that I would rather it had not revealed), and gives players and Narrators everything they could need to introduce a potential player or group of players to the world of Barsoom and the game itself. It provides an intro to Edgar Rice Burroughs, the genre, the three different Eras of the game (Dotar Sojat, Prince of Helium and Jeddak of Jeddaks), covers the entirety of character creation, all the Talents provided in the main rulebook, the game mechanics chapter, weapons and technology, and character advancement. In short, this book is pretty much the player's guide for the game (like it states on the tin) and provides the material from the first part of the Core Rulebook. And will likely be pretty useful at the game table for the players (and Narrators), too.

I haven't seen this product for sale anywhere, so I don't know whether it was unique to the Kickstarter for the game, but it's a decent book and will be of use in my games, to be sure! :)
