The CanGames That Isn't

Today, May 15th, the start of the Victoria Day weekend here in Canada, would have been the first day of the local CanGames convention here in Ottawa for 2020.

Sadly, of course, that will not be the case due to the Coronavirus pandemic that is happening. The Rideau Curling Club shut down all events at the club for a specified amount of time, and that includes CanGames, 2020. You can read about that in the blog entry I posted announcing the cancellation of CanGames.

Here's the listing of the games that I had planned to run this weekend at the convention.

The Black Widow
Game: Zorro: The Roleplaying Game
Time: Friday, 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Number of Players: 5
Description: When one of the leaders of Zorro's Legion is accused of killing a Don, your heroes must investigate the murder and attempt to clear the name of their compatriot! And there may be some duels with dastardly villains and a chase or two! An adventure for the brand new Zorro: The Roleplaying Game!

The Statuette of Zhar Baghra
Game: Coriolis - The Third Horizon RPG
Time: Saturday, 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Number of Players: 5
Description: While on Coriolis Station, your player characters are asked by a scholar to help him retrieve an artefact that needs to be returned to the planet Kua, below. Why do so many people want the artefact, and what sort of intrigue have you got yourselves into this time?

The Peril at Lucifer's Bluff
Game: Zorro: The Roleplaying Game
Time: Sunday, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Number of Players: 5
Description: When Tornado returns without its master from one of his nightly forays, your heroes must determine what has happened to Zorro and undertake a mission to rescue him! Can you save the Fox before it is too late? An adventure for the brand new Zorro: The Roleplaying Game!

To be honest, I was quite sad to hear there would be no CanGames 2020 this year as I was quite looking forward to it, but I wasn't surprised. I also am a bit annoyed and disappointed that the convention committee didn't set a new date, later in the year, for the convention. CanGames needs all the help it can get. It is such a small gaming convention as it is that it needs to keep the eyes of the gaming world on itself and get more people out to attend it. But more importantly, CanGames has outgrown the Curling Club venue that it's based at, and needs a new, more airy, tidier, food friendly place as a venue.

In the meantime, I look forward to CanGames 2021 next year.

To all my gamer friends out there, be safe and be healthy.

I'm digging the early fall temperatures. I know we've got a heatwave or two to go still but this is a nice start to the month.

I just can't go to a big event yet. I'd be so stressed that I wouldn't have fun.

People are determined to say that Covid is over or that we all just have to live with it and no one understands what…

hehe It's the second book in the series about Zoey, but to be honest, I found the humour in this second book a bit too much for my taste. That said, absolutely crazy stuff happens in this one (not…

Well, at GenCon they're checking peoples' vaccination status and actually administering vax doses (I guess Indiana Health or some such?) and people are wearing vax bracelets showing their condition…

Of course you do! :) Heck, *I* want one! :)

I really do want to run Vaesen - Nordic Horror Roleplaying. The Friday night group will play the game, but on Sundays, I don't know how to convince…
