Thoughts on Attending CanGames, 2023

Game Registration for CanGames, 2019

And so the gaming season is upon me once more.

About a week or so ago, I received my notification from CanGames (2023) that they are looking for GameMasters, and the link to the form for submitting games for the convention. Other than the link being ever so slightly problematic, I took a look at the GM Forms, and they're essentially pretty similar to the ones that have been around since what seems forever. So no problems here.

The problem that I'm facing this year is not what games I'm going to run per sé so much as whether I intend and want to go to CanGames 2023 at all this year. The COVID-19 pandemic has been with the world since 2020 and the last CanGames that happened was in 2019. CanGames 2023 is scheduled to happen the long Victoria Day weekend in May this year, May 19th - 21st but... COVID continues its relentless assault upon the world even as I write this, some waves of the disease worse and more lethal than others, and I don't think the variants of the disease have finished with us (the latest variant of concern being the Kraken one) and will still be around come May of this year. I am 67 years old, am diabetic, and am immuno-compromised. The convention will be happening this year at the Rideau Curling Club here in Ottawa, and to be perfectly honest, the ventilation and cleanliness at the curling club has not been all that sanitary in the past, and with COVID-19 in the air and all... well, this requires a bit more thought. Now, the convention hasn't been held for several years due to the pandemic, and it's possible that precautions (other than masking up) and changes have been made at the Curling Club to take COVID-19 and its variants into account, but... I need to consider my health in terms of whether I attend the convention this year.

Any thoughts on this, folks?
