Weekend and Other Notes

I had all kinds of things I wanted to write about today, but I'm feeling rather out of it, so I guess these rambling notes will do the job...

For some reason I've been feeling very tired most of the weekend. While I didn't stay up too late on Friday night after the gaming session, Saturday night was a late one, what with going to the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest. And for some reason, last night I just couldn't fall asleep until around 1:30 am or so. Definitely bleary eyed when the alarm went off.

Friday night's game was somewhat tiring, but I had a blast with it. In all honesty, I'm just happy that I'm getting to play in a game of Desolation, although it's sure different when you're playing in the group that has one's goddaughter in it! <g> I *like* Primal Magic. :)

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Loreena McKennitt's show on Saturday night at Bluesfest suffered from the outdoor venue. A shame really, since her music is quite lovely and all. In some ways, I do wish that we had seen the entire Brian Setzer Orchestra performance instead. That said, you gotta love a music festival with the sheer number of different styles of acts that perform there. Now if we could just get past the whole Shannon Tweed thing...

I have only two comments to make about Sunday afternoon's gaming session. First off, I'm not sure I like myself as a player when spross runs a game that I have or actually know. Perhaps he would be better off running a roleplaying game that I don't have or that I don't know. Second, I now know why I make an effort to have some sort of idea in mind for what I'm going to run with my players, even if I'm doing a scenario called "On A Wing and a Prayer". Poor spross had no idea what he was doing yesterday, and it clearly showed. He seemed like a lamb lost in the woods at times. I suspect that SteveR might have been happier if he'd decided that we should play a game or three of Ticket To Ride instead, but only he can answer that.

I didn't realize that the new season of Big Brother had started on tv this past week until I saw that it was on last night (Sunday). All I can say is that a) they've split the house guests along interesting lines; b) Laura is coming off as a right slut, and the way she emphasizes her breasts makes this worse (but that could also be the way that BB has decided to portray her, so I'll reserve a little bit of judgement on this one); and c) the batch of folks they have this season seems very...strange. Should make for interesting viewing.

The 2009 ENNie Awards Nominees have been announced. My congratulations to Cubicle 7 for their nominations, and I'm also glad to see Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies nominated for some awards. One of the games that I really want to get my hands on, although I'd rather play in that one. The Product of the Year category is going to be a difficult one to choose from, methinks.

Based on the review of the Joe Cocker show from last night at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest, I really wish I had been able to go and see that one.

Once more today, I have to leave work early so that I can be at the house for around 1:00 pm. As noted in earlier post and this post, the clothes dryer at home is bust, and the final step in the repair is supposed to be done today. Thank Goddess, as I really need to do some laundry at home!! (Hmm, and this is a good reminder that I have to pick up one of my suits at the dry cleaners on the way home today...)

Hey, John,

Well, sounds like an interesting weekend! :)

I am curious about something...what exactly did the other Steve do on Sunday with the game?

SteveB, fancy you commenting here! (hehe Just kidding.) :)

As for Steve Ross's game, well, I'll leave that to him to comment about, if he chooses to do so.

Well Steve, I basically had a couple of Carrion Eaters attack the Elf. The buzzards did a lot more damage then I expected before John and Tammy took them out. Then they spotted a trio of Warlander scouts who took off to report back to the others. The party reported this to the villagers living in the caves and there was a discussion over what to do. Eventually, the party left the caves with a couple of volunteers to see if the Warlanders were willing to talk. As they went to meet them, John came up with the idea of using the Elf to burn down the forest in order to drive the Warlanders away but didn't run with it. Instead they signaled for a parley. So the Warlanders sent someone to talk, as they would rather get the supplies they need without having to attack the caves and possibly lose men.

I'm kinda in a bind as to how to resolve this. My view is that the reason the Warlander leader is holding back to talk is that he not only has his thirty warriors to think of, but also the women and children of his band over the hill to think about.

John, do I have a game you don't have that you'd play? :)

To be honest, spross, I don't even know what games you have stored away in the cupboard and crawlspaces of the house you live in any more! So many games, so little time! :) Besides, it would also have to be something that Tammy would want to play (and hub_ of course).

As for burning down the forest to kill off and/or drive the Warlanders out, it was an obvious plan but one that a) I didn't want to use as that wasn't "in" my character; and b) it was out of my control, since it would have been up to hub_'s character to decide if he wanted to do it.
