Wanted to get to the blood lab for around 7:30 am or so, but I woke up around 5:15 am, and couldn't get back to sleep. My tummy complained of the lack of food until I finally got out of bed around 6:45, and seemed to settle a bit. Thought about checking the computer for mail and the like, but decided I didn't want to read any more about the terrific time people were having at GenCon Indy this early in the day. I am already suffering from a bad case of the Not-at-GenCon (NaGC) Blues as it is. Washed up and headed out to the lab for the blood tests.
When I went to the blood lab to get the tests done, I was already without food and significant amounts of water (given the heat here in Ottawa of late, the latter part is really bad), and was feeling cranky at not having gotten enough sleep. Woke up at 5:30 am, but that's another story. Despite the fact that I've been getting blood work done at that lab every three months now for over five years, and one of the lady calls me by name, this same lady told me today that I had to fill in an info sheet with my personal information because of the "new policy". With my wonderful bad wrist, that was soooooooo much fun...NOT! I ended up with another newbie blood retriever/technician, Carole. She did a pretty good job at taking the blood, and while my arm was burning at the needle point for a bit, that's fine now.
From the blood lab, I went straight over to Denny's, desperate for some breakfast (well, food and water, to be honest). I ordered the usual, but made sure to get a veggie omelette with the pancakes and bacon, skipping the sausages all together. Has anyone noticed that the vegetables that one gets in restaurant omelettes or eggs are slightly undercooked and soaked in oil? Unless one tells them how to cook it properly, of course. The breakfast was pretty good, but one unpleasant surprise was the fact that I couldn't get the sugar-free syrup for the pancakes they usually have. The waitress/server told me that they've stopped carrying that in the Canadian locations, and are now using one of Canada's own "no sugar added" syrup. Couldn't have as much syrup on the pancakes as I would have liked (due to the sugar content of the syrup), but it was an okay breakfast and fulfilled the need for food.
Got home about 9:15 am, and have been sitting relaxing and having a bit of water. My body is starting to feel a bit more normal after the food, and I've showered and am now on the way to work. (Not planning on working any extra hours today. Just want this day to end.)
Oh, and just to add to the mess...the weather is going to be a scorcher here today, and for the rest of the weekend. Great, just great. Have I ever mentioned how much I really hate hot weather? And hot, humid weather?
