Birthday Weekend, Day 2

Woke up on Saturday morning, my birthday, to the sound of the blues coming from the radio and DAWG FM, which is quickly becoming my favourite radio station these days. The day was already pretty warm, and was promising to be a real scorcher, with a high of 31oC (88oF), and a humidex of 39oC (102.2oF. What's interesting is that it's always hellishly hot like this on my birthday, and my mother told me that the day I was born in 1955, the temperature in London (she was down there seeing family) was 39oC. I've always wondered if this explains why I'm not a hot weather person, and absolutely loathe hot weather, especially when it's humid. Give me mid-Spring and the middle of Fall, and I'm fine.

Spent a bit of time on the computer, and then headed upstairs for breakfast. Made myself an omelette with cheese and onions, and added a bit of Jewish salami to it, and had coffee with a dash of cinnamon. Lovely. :)

After showering, I went out to pick up the birthday Blackforest cake, since I figured I would beat the heat and get it back to the house while it was still relatively cool out. Surprise, surprise, the cake wasn't ready for me, and they said that I needed to come back around 4:30 pm to pick it up. I couldn't manage this for reasons mentioned below, so I paid for the cake, and arranged with my mother to pick it up before she dropped by my house to see me.

Had a nice lunch at the house with salad, and then puttered around, did a bit of reading. spross came by after he got off work, and we headed over to the Comic Book Shoppe and snagged another couple of months' worth of comics. I've been trying to read a few books the past couple of months, but do enjoy the comics, especially now that the Legion of Super-Heroes has two titles ongoing. :) On the way back to my house, we stopped off at a chip wagon and had some delicious chips; well, I did, but spross indulged himself with some poutine. I absolutely loathe the stuff, and can't figure out why people pollute perfectly good chips with gravy and curds. Ugghhh!

We got back to the house and had a cup of tea together, and by the time spross was ready to head for home, my mother had arrived with the Blackforest cake. An 8-inch cake of chocolatey goodness (or should that be badness?). :)

After everyone left, I managed to relax for another hour and a half or so, but needed to get ready to go out to dinner with the Friday night crew. Kathy and SteveB had refused to tell me where we were going to eat, as it was meant to be a surprise, but told me to dress "casual neat". They arrived just before 7:00 pm, and we set out, me following them and the others in my car. We arrived at our destination, and I realised that we were at The Keg restaurant, one of my favourite places, but rather expensive. All of my Friday night friends were there, SteveB, Kathy, Ellie, Tom, Nick, Joanne, and several others. Dinner was superb, and very good - I had some spicy quesadillas, a side salad, an 8 oz. steak, and baked potato with a small side of veggies. Delicious stuff. Because the others had various plans for the next day, and the heat had pretty much wreaked havoc on all of us this day, we decided to call it an early night.

After I had said goodnight to my friends, and gotten smooched by Kathy and snogged by Ellie's godmother (and that's all I'm saying on the subject!), I drove back to the house and decided to take it easy for the rest of the evening. I was feeling somewhat restless, though, so I made a cup of tea, and had a piece of Blackforest cake. I turned on the tv, and watched a couple of episodes, the first two, of the old UFO tv series. Good stuff.

Finally deciding that I was somewhat tired, and knowing that I had to get as much sleep as I could, I headed to bed just after 12:15 am. A good birthday, all told, even if there was something missing that I can't really put my finger on.
