Some MonkeyJunk Music for a Friday Afternoon

For those who are fans of the musical style called the blues, I thought I would introduce you to a band that you've probably never heard of, MonkeyJunk. They're a local Ottawa blues band that are making a name for themselves. At the Maple Blues Awards on January 17th, 2010, they won five of the six categories that they were nominated in, with the awards for Entertainer of the year, Electric Act of the Year, Male Vocalist and Harmonica Player (Steve Marriner), and Guitarist (Tony Diteodoro). The band took the Best Blues Artist award at the Canadian Independent Music Awards at Canadian Music Week in Toronto back in March of this year. The band recently took the Best New Artist Debut for "Tiger in Your Tank" at the 2010 Blues Music Awards in Memphis on May 6th, 2010. They are a terrific band, and their second album is due out some time in October/November of this year.

I didn't get to see them at this year's Ottawa Bluesfest on Wednesday night, but have the next best thing. Here's one of the tracks the group performed that night, "Travelling Man":

And then here, from the concert they performed in Kamloops, British Columbia, in 2009, is "Small Time Evil":

Enjoy the music for a Friday afternoon! :)
