GenCon Indy Housing Opens

Today was the opening of GenCon Indy 2011 hotel and housing registration.

One of the worst thing about this day when it comes to booking a hotel room for the biggest gaming convention in North America is the fact that it's like a bunch of wolves descending on a single prey, each wolf out for itself.

I logged on some 10 minutes after GenCon Indy housing opened, and by then it was too late. I couldn't book a double room for the convention for myself and spross on the desired dates that didn't necessitate finding a different room in a different hotel for at least two of the dates in question. So, no hotel booked for now. I've got another couple of options that are open to me because of contacts in the RPG world, so should be able to get a room for the convention through that route without any real problems, but this has been just a bit more stress added to an otherwise stressful day.

In the meantime, I have to wonder how the hotel registration process for GenCon Indy can be improved, but more importantly I have to wonder why I couldn't book a straight block of days for a room after only 10 minutes of hotel registration being open.
