Lewis Binford, the leading advocate of the "New Archaeology" movement, has died at the age of 79.
Lewis Binford is mainly known for his contributions to archaeological theory, and his promotion of ethnoarchaeological research. The leading advocate of the "New Archaeology" movement of the 1960s, he and others argued that there should be an emphasis on the application of scientific methodologies as well as the hypothetico-deductive method to archaeology.
