As noted in yesterday's blog entries (or at least one of them), I planned on watching the Series 5 finale of Primeval on the internet yesterday. And this is what I did.

You won't find any spoilers here for Primeval Series 5, Episode 6 here. (That's not what this is about.)

What I will say is that this was one of the better episodes of Series 5, let alone Series 4 of the show, and to be honest, while it had a plot twist that I expected, there were a couple of things that happened that I didn't expect. The story that has been building since the character of Matt Anderson was introduced back in Series 4 of Primeval was resolved in a manner of speaking, but left an interesting cliffhanger at the end of it all, and the character of James Lester shone in this episode (and the previous one). What made this interesting for me was that a character that I really didn't care for when he/she was introduced became likable over the course of this last pair of episodes, and I find myself quite fond of them now.

What makes this Series 5 finale of the show so interesting is that ITV won't commit to a new series of Primeval until some time when or after the show airs on ITV itself, as it's just finished airing on a small satellite equivalent channel called Watch. This means that when a new series of the show could be shot, maybe showing up in 2013 or so, it's possible that none of the current cast of the series might be in it!, depending on their work commitments and the like. So in the meantime, we just have to sit back and wait and see. What I can say after the end of Series 5, Episode 6 is that I want *more* Primeval, dammit! Make of that what you will.

I liked Matt and Emily a lot more as S5 progressed, and the ruined future angle is one that I've really been hoping they'd do justice to.

The less said about all the Abby/Connor stuff, the better! Lester continues to make sticking with the show worthwhile . . .

And that final twist was excellent.

I came to like Matt and Emily a lot more as well as Series 5 progressed, but Matt is still not all that likable to me.

No argument about the Connor/Abby stuff, though some of what happened in Series 4 may make a bit more sense now. Lester is the best thing about the series currently.

Yep, the final twist was really neat. Hope we get to find out more about it.

The ending definitely made me want more. I was pleased to see Connor and Abby finally sorting out their relationship. And Matt grew on me quite a bit over the course of the fifth series, although I'm never going to be as attached to him as I am to Cutter.

I think one of the likely problems with any S6 might well be the non-participation of ALP and Hannah (they've given quite a chunk of their careers to the show and no one would be surprised if they wanted to move on) - - removing them could potentially lose a lot of the audience.

I could see one way for them to leave with an option to pop up in one or two episodes, by having C and A lent out to another country struggling with their own anomalies.

Given the massive surge in popularity that Becker/Jess has had, I suspect the show would survive the loss of A/C reasonably well.

Although Adrian Hodges has told me he doesn't think they'll have too much of a problem getting 'most' of the cast back. Whatever that might mean!

While that may be true, there is the fact that 2013 is a long way off, and actors' committments can't really be anticipated this far in advance. Even assuming we see a Series 6 of the show.

I can see where Andrew and Hannah might want out, as to be honest, I feel like their story has come to an end for the most part with the events of the end of the Series 5 final episode. That said, one might want them to show up occasionally, as fans seem to love them to no end.

Yep, it was really quite remarkable that final twist, and made me think, "WHAT???" :)
