Yesterday evening was spent with the Friday night gaming group, as we went out to dinner and spent some time together to celebrate my birthday, and just relax. The entire gang was there - Kathy, Nick, Tom, Joanne, Angela, and the new guy, David, as well as my goddaughter Ellie. The evening started off with Kathy and Ellie arriving at my place, and then we headed out to The Keg Steakhouse and Bar out on Hunt Club for dinner with everyone, as Kathy and Nick had made the reservations there for around 7:00 pm.
The rest of the group, along with some spouses and girlfriends, met us there, so there were a good 14 of us there for dinner. The meal was absolutely fabulous, as can be expected at The Keg, and I had a marvellous 6 oz. steak, with mashed potatoes, a side salad, and some grilled mushrooms, and we washed it down with a bit of wine (none for me, Kathy, and Ellie). We were there for a good two and a half hours or so, just having a good time, and relaxing and chatting about all sorts of stuff. Most of the gang had some dessert, and Kathy, Ellie, and I split a piece of chocolate cheese cake with a drizzle of marzipan, and we all had either coffee or tea to round out the great meal.
After dinner, Kathy dropped me off at my place, and then I followed her and Ellie out to Kathy's place in Ottawa's West End, where the rest of the gang met up with us. We spent the rest of the evening just hanging out together, chatting, listening to a bit of music, having some healthy veggies and home-made cheese dip and pesto, and shared a bottle of wine. (I had half a goblet of the wine, which was pretty good, a nice light white wine from Australia.) The evening came to an end all too quickly, and I managed to get home last night around 12:30 am.
By the time I crawled into bed, it was around 1:00 am, and I was out like a light. Didn't sleep all that well, because of the new bed, but such is life. :)
Overall, the birthday weekend was quite a good time, more relaxing than it's been in some time, and while I didn't get a lot of birthday cards (it's a policy I have with the Friday group that only Ellie and the baby get birthday cards) or presents, it was a pretty good weekend all told.
