Primeval: New World News

Some news on the Primeval front...

According to Blastr, this word on the new Canadian spin-off Primeval tv series:

Canadian Primeval Spinoff to be Darker, Scarier, and Crossover-ier

I'm not sure what this means in terms of the series being "scarier" and "darker" and all, but this certainly has potential, and would appear to make the series more North American in feel that British, methinks. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the series will likely be made to appeal more to the North American audience in taste, but I always thought that some of dinosaurs and other creatures encountered in the Brit series were pretty terrifying, just not portrayed that way at times.

As for the business of there being a crossover from the UK series in the first episode (presumably the pilot), that leads to all manner of interesting conjectures about which cast member it might be. There are certainly some obvious candidates, I expect, but to be honest, I don't know whether it couldn't be someone from the first series of the Brit show. Hopefully, we'll be hearing some casting news sooner rather than later.

I hope they manage to capture some of the spirit of the original, that amateur flavour that made it such fun. But darker and scarier might well be interesting.

A few nods to Cutter and his work would be nice, too.

I'd quite like to see Becker cross over, myself.

Whether they can capture the flavour and spirit of the original series is another matter, and one that we'll have to wait and see about. I don't know if that will be one of the concerns of the new series, but it would be interesting to have the amateur flavour to it, and then toss in the darker and scarier elements.

As for crossing over characters, I don't know who I'd like to see. I think it will depend where in the Primeval history they start the new series; that will determine who they could bring in for crossover purposes.
