Anyway, on to the news...
As folks already know, Niall Matter and Crystal Lowe had already leaked on their Twitter accounts that they were cast in roles for the series. We now know that Niall will be playing Evan Cross, the enterprising inventor and visionary hero, but there's no word on who Crystal Lowe will be playing as yet.
However, yesterday news broke on some more of the cast members. Sara Canning (who has appeared in Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and Smallville) will play Dylan Weir, a predator attack expert and specialist in animal behavior. (Hmm, wonder if she's related to Dr. Weir of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis?) The series will also feature Miranda Frigon (last seen in Heartland) as Ange Finch, Geoff Gustafson (who appeared in Hot Tub Time Machine and last played Stealthy in Once Upon a Time)) as Ken Leeds, and Danny Rahim (who's appeared in Young James Herriot and EastEnders) as Mac Rendell. However, the really big news is that Andrew-Lee Potts, who starred as Connor Temple, will be guest starring in the show. The news this morning from Sci Fi Bulletin's chat with Adrian Hodges indicates that Connor will be a bridge between the two series, and will appear (likely) in just the premiere, but still... Yay! :)
Other info is that based on the original series from Impossible Pictures, Primeval: New World’s creative team is led by Executive Producers Martin Wood (Sanctuary, Stargate Atlantis) and Gillian Horvath (Sanctuary, Highlander). The spin-off was created by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens (Star Trek: Enterprise, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World) and will be written by Gillian Horvath, Peter Hume, Jon Cooksey, Sarah Dodd, Katherine Collins, and Judith and Garfield Reeve-Stevens. The creatures will be created by three time Emmy Award-nominated visual effects company Atmosphere (who've worked on Stargate, Smallville, and Psych, to name a few).
All in all, a good day for the fans of Primeval and Primeval: New World.
