No Doctor Who for 2009, Sort Of

The BBC made the following announcement about the future of Doctor Who:

Doctor Who to Skip a Year

To be honest, I'm not sure what this means for the future of David Tennant as the Doctor after the fourth series, despite the fact that he will appear in the three Specials during 2009. The fact that it seems there will be two companions, Martha Jones and Donna (Catherine Tate, last seen in the Christmas special "The Runaway Bride") (at least this is how I interpret this), makes things sound interesting, if nothing else. I always thought that the Donna character would have made a good companion, and was disappointed when she wasn't brought into the series when the third series of the current incarnation of Doctor Who began.

Oh, well, I guess we'll see what we shall see...assuming I'm still watching Doctor Who by that time.
