World Fantasy Awards?

The World Fantasy Award winners were announced yesterday.

While I like to think that many of the folks I know who read the sf and fantasy literature that is out there are fantasy fans and will likely have read some of these works, it isn't as if the WF Awards actually mean anything in a real world money sense. Back in the days when I was a bookstore owner and seller of books in the field, there was a joke (some might call it an observation) in the book sellers' community that winning the World Fantasy Award actually dooms a book to an out of print status and relative obscurity.

Thoughts? Comments?

(But don't stop reading those lovely books, okay?)
