Christmas Day
Spent yesterday, Christmas Day, occupied with various things.
Did a bit of writing and catching up with notes on a couple of game sessions of Primeval RPG in the morning, and then went to spend the rest of the afternoon and have supper with my mother at the retirement home where she's convalescing after her surgery. Had a nice, quiet time with my mother when I got to the Windsor Park Manor home, though the parking lot was slippery and icy, and I fell once. (Not to bad, landed on my gloved hands, but lost my glasses in the process, though they weren't chipped or scratched.) She was in a pretty good mood, and seems well on the way to recovering from the surgery (though with the cancer, have to wait and see).
Supper at the retirement home was a Christmas Day turkey dinner. The meal started off with a bowl of mushroom soup and some crackers. The soup was too salty for my taste, but was quite good. Made a nice, hot opening dish, and warmed the cockles of my heart, not to mention my body. Next up was a salad. The salad had lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes, and was adequate and tasty as salads are when mixed with the right dressing (I had it with balsamic vinaigrette on the side). Quite nice. The main entré was turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and cooked turnips and carrots, and served with cranberry sauce. The turkey was tender and succulent, the gravy was lovely and thick (possibly one of the brand names of gravy, but I couldn't be sure), the mashed potatoes were just right (though there wasn't enough of them), but the vegetables were a bit overcooked and mushy. Still, a decent meal. Instead of the pumpkin pie, I had some black cherry ice cream as dessert, and this was lovely and creamy, quite nice. We washed it down with a hot cup of decaf tea, with small Christmas cookies, and the meal was quite lovely.
I stayed with mom for another hour or so, and then headed home to relax and put my back on ice again. Got home just in time to watch the new Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Snowmen", and then relaxed with some more tea before heading off to bed.
