Verity Lambert, 1935-2007

Terrible, terrible, news from England today.

Verity Lambert has died.

For those who do not know, Verity Lambert was the first female producer at the BBC, and the first producer of the highly popular Doctor Who tv series in 1963. She was also the youngest person to ever take charge of a BBC series at the time. Verity Lambert leaves a television legacy of series that are too numerous to mention here, but was one of the most influential women in British television history.

Verity Lambert was 71 years old at the time of her death. She will be sorely missed.

Rest In Peace, Verity. You've earned it.

We were both very sad to hear of Verity Lambert's death. We grew up watching programmes she helmed and it never ceases to amaze us just what she was involved with.

Most of all, she did what all truly good producers do: she did her job so well that she was invisible, letting the programmes find their own voice, not hers.
